About
Mr Pasquale Giordano is a consultant colorectal surgeon with a special interest in advanced laparoscopic surgery, proctological conditions, functional bowel disorders and complex abdominal wall hernias. He qualified in Medicine from the University of Naples, Italy in 1990.
After finishing his specialist surgical training in Italy in 1995, he moved to the UK to pursue further higher surgical training. His colorectal training also includes a Fellowship at the Department of Colorectal Surgery of the Cleveland Clinic Florida and a Senior Colorectal Fellowship at the Centre for Academic Surgery the Royal London Hospital.
In 2002 Mr. Giordano was appointed as a Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Academic Surgery the Royal London Hospital. Since 2004 he has been working as a Consultant Surgeon at Whipps Cross University Hospital and maintained an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London. In 2012 he was appointed as the clinical network lead for the Academic Department of Colorectal Surgery at Barts Health Trust, position that he covered for 6 years.
Mr. Giordano is currently the Clinical Lead for the Pelvic Floor and Functional Bowel Disorders of the Royal London Hospital and Clinical Lead for the Abdominal Wall Surgery service for Barts Health NHS Trust. Between 2010 and 2017 he has also been a member of the directive council of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain & Ireland and is currently the European vice president of the International Society of University Colorectal Surgery.

Research
Mr. Giordano's main areas of research interest include laparoscopic surgery, complex abdominal wall hernias and reconstructions, haemorrhoids, faecal incontinence, other benign proctological conditions.
Mr. Giordano has delivered over 200 lecturers to international meetings and conferences and contributed to over 70 peer reviewed publications on prestigious journals like Lancet, the British Journal of Surgery and Archives of Surgery and several book chapters. With his research Mr Giordano has contributed to several NICE guidelines.
Mr. Giordano was the first UK-based surgeon to use the transanal hemorrhoidal dearterialization (THD) technique that he has further developed to what it has now become one of the most widely accepted procedures for the treatment of haemorrhoids, and he is currently the surgeon with the largest experience of this procedure in the UK and worldwide.
Mr. Giordano directs the only THD training course that is both available in the UK and accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons. He is also the surgeon who first described an abdominal all reconstruction with biologic material in 2002.
