He is one the most experienced cataract and vitreo-retinal surgeons in the UK having performed over 25,000 cataract procedures. His expertise is firstly in performing high-volume bespoke cataract surgery, complicated cataract procedures, and managing the complications of cataract and laser refractive surgery. Secondly, he established the Retinal Surgery Service in Oxford and has trained 18 Fellows in this area of highly specialised surgery. He trains junior doctors from all over the world, at both basic and advanced levels.
A key component of cataract surgery by Mr Rosen is endeavoring to understand the visual requirements of each patient and matching the latest lens implant technology to the individual patient to maximize their visual potential and outcome. Paul is a past President of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) the largest Society in Europe dedicated to cataract and refractive surgery, and past President of the UK and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (UKISCRS). He is currently Chairman of Trustees of the ESCRS and a Trustee of UKISCRS and a Medical Editor of Eurotimes, a publication of the ESCRS.
He is an Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons in Glasgow and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. As a member of the Education Committee of the ESCRS, he is actively involved in training junior surgeons and colleagues, running the Didactic Cataract Surgery Course, and coordinating the Instructional Course programme. He also participates in courses on presbyopia correction and refractive cataract surgery for the European Society.
He has over 50 publications in the peer reviewed literature. Committed to promoting quality in laser refractive surgery and valued for his many years of experience in Cataract and Laser Eye Surgery, Paul was a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Refractive Surgery reference Group and co-authored the NICE Cataract Surgery Guidelines Committee. Paul is invited to lecture on cataract and refractive surgery worldwide, and regular involvement in these major subspecialty congresses ensures he utilizes the latest innovations in his clinical practice in order to maintain the highest standards.
