Mr Raja Venkataraman

Mr R Venkataraman is currently working as a substantive consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics at one of the largest NHS trusts, University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation trust. His specialist interests include hip and knee arthroplasty (joint replacement) surgery and arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery excluding soft tissue reconstruction of the knee.

Mr R Venkataraman graduated with his basic medical and post graduate degree in orthopaedics from one of the top ranked, reputed institutions in India, the Christian Medical College and Hospital, Vellore. His career in orthopaedics and trauma began in the year 2000. 

Mr R Venkataraman now has two post graduate degrees in orthopaedics across two continents and an extensive clinical experience across the breadth and depth of this field. He undertook an advanced clinical fellowship training in hip and knee joint replacement surgery from the Golden Jubilee National Hospital, Glasgow. As a British Orthopaedic Association Travelling Clinical Fellow in trauma, he visited the Massachusetts General Hospital (Harvard), for a clinical advanced fellowship in trauma.

Mr R Venkataraman is an Honorary Senior Lecturer for the Leicester university and a Medical Student Block lead for trauma and orthopaedics. He is panel member for the National Specialist Training Recruitment into Orthopaedics and Trauma. With a successfully completed Post graduate Certificate in Medical Education, he is a qualified and RCS & GMC recognised surgical instructor for the European Trauma, Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course and Educational Supervisor for surgical trainees.

As a Clinical Governance Lead for the trauma and orthopaedic department, Mr. R Venkataraman ensures and cultivates an environment of reporting, investigating, learning from patient related incidents.  

Over the course of his illustrious career, Mr. R Venkataraman has developed and maintained a strong track record in research, audit, quality improvement activities, peer-reviewed publications, and several national and international presentations.
