About

Rajeev G. Mathew is a Consultant ENT Surgeon at The Manor Hospital and John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

He graduated in medicine with a triple first from Cambridge University and Distinction from University College London in 2006. He completed his surgical training in adult and paediatric ENT in London, including centres such as Guy's and St Thomas', St George's Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. In 2019, he was awarded a PhD in hearing research from University College London. After completing his training in London, he undertook a further 2-year advanced fellowship in otology, hearing implantation and skull base surgery at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge.

Mr Mathew sees both children and adults with a range of ear, nose and throat problems. This includes hearing loss, glue ear, ear infections, cholesteatoma, ear pain, ear wax, perforated ear drum, tinnitus, dizziness/vertigo, nasal blockage, nose bleeds, nasal polyps, sinus disease, sore throat, obstructive sleep apnoea, enlarged tonsils or adenoids, recurrent tonsillitis, and throat/voice problems.

Mr Mathew deals with conditions of the ears, nose and throat as listed above. He has sub specialist expertise in diseases of the ear/hearing (eg. cholesteatoma, perforations, auto-immune hearing loss, infections), balance problems (eg. BPPV, Meniere’s disease, vestibular migraine), hearing implantation (bone anchored hearing aids and cochlear implants) as well we as skull base surgery (eg. inner ear disease, facial weakness/paralysis, cerebrospinal fluid leak, glomus tumour/paraganglioma, acoustic neuroma/vestibular schwannoma).

Research

Rajeev was awarded a PhD in hearing research in 2019. His thesis focussed on the use of electrophysiology to measure how sound from a cochlear implant is encoded in the brain. Rajeev’s other interests include hearing preservation/restoration and improving surgical outcomes.
