About

Rana Sayeed was appointed as a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the Oxford Heart Centre, John Radcliffe Hospital, in 2007 after specialist training in cardiothoracic surgery at Papworth Hospital, Cambridge, and the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital, and a Fellowship in General Thoracic Surgery & Lung Transplantation at the University of Toronto.

He is the Head of the Programme for Complex Mitral Valve Surgery and the former Clinical Lead for Cardiac Surgery. He performs all aspects of adult cardiac surgery and has specialist expertise in mitral and tricuspid valve surgery.

Rana completed his basic science research training as a Medical Research Council Clinical Training Fellow in the Section of Cardiovascular Biology, Department of Biochemistry, University of Cambridge. He remains active in clinical research as the local Principal Investigator for several multi-centre clinical trials.

Rana is the current Honorary Secretary of the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain & Ireland. He is the immediate (founding) Thames Valley Training Programme Director for Cardiothoracic Surgery, a former member of the Specialty Advisory Committee, and the immediate past Chair of the Intercollegiate Specialty (examination) Board.

Mr Sayeed has published over 45 peer-reviewed journal papers and other publications. He was awarded a Medical Research Council Clinical Training Fellowship to complete his PhD at the University of Cambridge before starting his specialist training in heart and lung surgery.
