Mr Sameer Gujral

Sameer Gujral is a fully accredited plastic surgeon with over 12 years of experience in the field. He was appointed as a substantive Plastic and Hand Surgeon at Derriford Hospital in 2021. His primary field of interest is hand surgery, covering all aspects of elective and trauma hand surgery along with complex reconstruction. His practice also includes the management of benign and malignant skin and soft tissue lesions, and he is part of the Derriford Hospital Skin Cancer multidisciplinary team and trained in dermoscopic examination of skin lesions using a specialist magnifying light microscope to aid diagnosis. Separately he has an interest in non-surgical aesthetics with several years of experience. He has undertaken specific training in facial non-surgical cosmetics. He was also an aesthetics fellow for two months in Bristol during his registrar-level training.

With regards to research he has over 30 publications many of which are in peer reviewed journals and has undertaken laboratory and qualitative research, presenting his work internationally in Switzerland, the USA, Edinburgh. Most recently this was in Toronto, Canada 2023 at the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.

Sameer ranked first nationally when he obtained his plastic surgery specialist registrar training number and when applying for a national advanced training programme in hand surgery being awarded a Training Interface Group Fellowship in Ortho-plastic Hand Surgery.

Sameer has subsequently undertaken two specialist hand surgery fellowships. One across plastics and orthopaedic hand/wrist surgery for 14 months Bristol and Bath, 2021-22. The other as the American International Travelling Fellow in Hand Surgery USA, 2023, where he visited leading hand surgeons in New Mexico, New York, Florida and Atlanta. Sameer is extremely passionate about hand surgery and is also training in bedside ultrasound scanning of the hand for therapeutic interventions and diagnostics, which he now uses in his hand surgery clinics at the Nuffield.  He is one of only a few hand surgeons locally currently offering this in the outpatient clinic at the time of consultation.
