About

Mr Shil Shetty graduated as a doctor in 1993 and initially trained in Orthopaedics in the Liverpool Rotation. Mr Shetty then moved to the Royal London Hospital, a Level 3 trauma centre, for more specialised training in trauma management and lower limb surgery. He has also had specialist training as a Senior Fellow in Lower Limb Reconstruction and Arthroplasty from the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore which is a highly specialised tertiary referral centre for orthopaedic surgery. He subsequently did another clinical fellowship at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Birmingham, again a highly specialised centre. He had specific training in surface replacement (Birmingham) arthroplasty of the hip and revision, hip replacement and knee surgery.

He was awarded the MCh (Orthopaedics ) degree from the University of Liverpool for his work on PCR analysis of synovial fluid from failed joint replacements. He is a first rank holder in orthopaedic exams and was also previously awarded the "Best Resident Doctor” Award in training. He has also recently been awarded the title of Assistant Professor in Surgery from St George’s University Medical School. 

He is an expert and a pioneering surgeon in the region for Robotic Hip and Knee Surgery.

Other interests

He was appointed as a Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedics at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital , Winchester in July 2006 where he continues to practice as a NHS Consultant. He was previously a Clinical Lead for Orthopaedics in the NHS. His specialist interest is in enhanced recovery by using minimally invasive technique in hip and knee replacements and arthroscopic / soft tissue knee surgery including sports injuries. He continues to have an interest in teaching and training of the next generation of Orthopaedic surgeons.

He is married with 2 daughters and enjoys the benefits of living in a delightful Hampshire village.
