About
Mr Drew is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in orthopaedics, shoulder and elbow surgery, hand and wrist surgery, joint replacement, key hole surgery, paediatric upper limb orthopaedics and sports medicine.
Mr Drew was appointed as a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire in 2000. He trained predominantly in London and was awarded his Master of Surgery for research in nerve repair and regeneration undertaken at Edinburgh University. He is fellowship trained in both hand and wrist, and shoulder and elbow surgery. Since taking up his consultant post he has developed a particular interest in arthroscopic reconstructive shoulder surgery and has also built up a large tertiary referral practice for complex open reconstructive surgery especially post trauma.
He is a member of BESS (British Elbow and Shoulder Society)
council and is currently secretary. Previously, he served as a member of the
BESS research committee and also chaired this committee from 2015-2018. This
has given him a very good insight into the evidence base for shoulder and elbow
surgery, as well as an early awareness of new and developing treatments.
He regularly teaches on national and international courses
and especially enjoys teaching practical arthroscopic skills. He has treated a
wide variety of athletes of all abilities and was one of the upper limb
surgeons to the British Gymnastics Team and British Orthopaedic Association
(BOA). He is the Lead Clinician for shoulder and elbow research at Warwick
University, and is the Principle Investigator for a £1 million grant from NIHR
into the use of the InSpace Balloon for massive rotator cuff tears.
