About
Mr Roe is a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon practicing in Gloucestershire. He is interested in benign and malignant conditions affecting the large and small bowel, and advocates a keyhole (laparoscopic) approach to abdominal surgery whenever possible. He regularly performs complex cancer resections and major pelvic floor work as well as managing benign proctological conditions (affecting the anus and rectum), abdominal and groin hernias and skin lumps and bumps.
He graduated from Cambridge University then completed basic surgical training in Wessex and higher training in the South West.
After completing training he
worked as a locum Consultant at Southmead Hospital in Bristol but relocated to
Gloucestershire for his substantive appointment, where frequent emergency
operating features alongside his elective practice.
Special interests
Mr Roe provides a comprehensive colorectal service, including minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery for benign and malignant colorectal pathology, surgery for ano-rectal conditions such as haemorrhoids and fistulae and diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy.
He has a special interest in conditions of the pelvic floor, including rectal prolapse, faecal incontinence and obstructed defecation.
Other interests
Mr Roe also offers a
general surgical service managing hernias of the groin and abdominal wall and
benign “lumps and bumps”.
Personal interests
Mr Roe has always been a keen rugby player and still enjoys a run-out when family commitments allow.
He is interested in general sports and fitness and also likes family walks with the sausage dog. Especially when they end in the pub.

Research
Mr Roe undertook a 2 year period of dedicated scientific research at the Cancer Research UK institute based at the University of Birmingham investigating the role of iron in the development of cancer. This period culminated in the award of his MD.
