About
Mr Edwards is a Consultant Laparoscopic General and Colorectal Surgeon based in Taunton. Having qualified at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, London, he completed his general surgical and colorectal training in the South West of England.
In addition he has undertaken fellowships in inflammatory bowel disease in Edinburgh, intestinal failure in Manchester (one of only two such units in the UK) and laparoscopic colorectal surgery in Plymouth, home to LAPCO – the national training programme. At the end of his training he undertook a travelling fellowship to Cleveland, USA, to study advanced laparoscopic colorectal surgery.
Mr Edwards provides a comprehensive range of general surgical and colorectal care with specific interests in laparoscopic general and colorectal surgery (including day-case), single port surgery, inflammatory bowel disease, hernia repair and colorectal cancer, especially low rectal cancer surgery including sphincter preserving techniques.

Personal interests
Outside of work, he devotes all of my spare time to my wife and two daughters who are also based in Taunton, although he occasionally sneaks out for a bike ride or a surf when they’re not looking.

Research
Aside from his Master's, Mr Edwards has an extensive research background with over 36 publications in major surgical journals. Most recently these have included work on single port laparoscopic surgery, low rectal cancer and abdominoperineal resection. He is currently drafting the laparoscopic component of the LOREC national position statement for the management of low rectal cancer.
