About
Penny Warnes is an Orthoptist working with Consultant Ophthalmologists assessing children with squints and reduced vision, and adults with double vision, squints and eye movement disorders. She also provides orthoptic assessments to Consultants as additional tests for medico-legal reports.
Penny has over 30 years’ experience in this field, and is currently the Lead for Neuro-Orthoptics and Complex Needs at Bristol Eye Hospital, as well as working in local community clinics. She has a special interest in children with brain-related visual impairments and is part of a team running specialist clinics at Bristol Eye Hospital. She has also covered locum work in single handed units in Jersey, the Isle of Wight and satellite clinics in Cornwall.
She has a Master’s degree from Bristol University and has been Involved in major research projects including the Avon Longitudinal study of Pregnancy and Childhood (ALSPAC) and collaborated with the neonatal team in the drainage, irrigation and fibrinolytic therapy (DRIFT) study.
Penny is currently running a preceptorship programme for new staff in the Orthoptic Department at Bristol Eye Hospital.
