About

Louise has over 20 years of experience as a Consultant Paediatric Ophthalmologist at Cambridge University Hospital NHS Trust, after completing Fellowship training at Great Ormond Street Hospital. She has a specialist interest in genetic eye disease and leads the East of England service. More recently she has invented and evaluated a number of innovative medical devices to improve children’s eye care. 
Louise is an Affiliated Associate Professor in the Department of Paediatrics, University of Cambridge.

Other interests

Louise’s interest in digital technology (cue much hilarity from her student sons) has resulted in a number of patents and she is currently Chief Investigator for several National Institute for Healthcare Research studies.

Research

Louise completed an MD thesis in genetic eye disease (inherited retinal dystrophies). She has developed and is evaluating a congenital cataract screening digital camera (neocam) in a national study of newborn eye screening. She has developed and validated a self-testing visual acuity app to support home monitoring and remote consultation, which could help with clinic backlogs and late diagnosis of treatable eye conditions www.digivis.uk .
