Ms Rupinder Grewal

Ms Rupinder Grewal (pronounced Gray-waal/ wall) is an experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hand, wrist and some elbow surgery at Nuffield Health Brentwood Hospital.  She treats adults and children. 

Ms Grewal completed her Orthopaedic training at the Royal London Hospital and was fortunate enough to be their first ever female trainee.  She then went on to do a three-year research and clinical fellowship in Upper Limb Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, followed later by a Hand and Microsurgery clinical fellowship in Louisville, Kentucky at the Kleinart Kutz Hand Care Centre.

Ms Grewal was appointed as a consultant at Basildon Hospital in 2000 and has also been practicing in the Brentwood and Southend areas since then.  She is trained in all aspects of Orthopaedic surgery.  She introduced several new hand and wrist procedures to the service at Basildon Hospital.   

Initially, Ms Grewal’s practice encompassed all areas of Orthopaedic surgery including spine, hip, knee, shoulder, ankle and foot surgery.  Over the years she has concentrated her practice on her areas of particular interest and now specialises in problems of the hand, wrist and elbows.  She has continued treating simple problems of the forefoot (toes and metatarsals) including performing operations; and diagnosing problems of shoulders and ankles and treating them non-operatively when required, including giving therapeutic injections and manipulation of joints when appropriate.  

At the core of Ms Grewal's practice is her passion to provide the highest possible standard of care. Patients will have time to discuss all possible treatment options for their particular problem, so that they are comfortable and understand the associated benefits and risks of each option and are confident that their preferred course of treatment is sensible, appropriate for them and made in partnership with Ms Grewal. 

Ms Grewal has been Clinical Governance lead for Surgical Services and Orthopaedics for several years in the NHS and also in the private sector.  She was the Clinical Audit Lead in Orthopaedics for over 10 years.  She was an honorary clinical lecturer for the University College of London students at Basildon for 16 years and has been an MBBS examiner.  She takes patient safety very seriously and is a human factors trainer to improve patient safety during surgery.  When not at work, she dabbles in painting, pottery and stained glasswork and is an active Rotarian.
