About
Prof Bertelli is a Consultant Medical Oncologist at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Trust and Honorary Clinical Professor at Brighton and Sussex Medical School. He has more than three decades of experience in the treatment of breast cancer and a strong interest in research, which has resulted in more than 100 publications and a PhD from the University of Maastricht.
When treating breast cancer, it is essential to take into account the individual needs and preferences of each patient, the distinct types of breast cancer, which respond to different types of treatment, and the side effects of therapies. This is why Prof Bertelli tailors his treatments to each individual case, in partnership with the patient. The aim is to obtain the best possible outcomes while reducing the impact on quality of life.
He first qualified in 1986 as MD in Genoa, Italy, specialised in Medical Oncology and Internal Medicine and worked as a consultant in the Genoa Cancer Institute and in Piedmont, before moving to the UK in 2002. After many years at Singleton Hospital in Swansea, he joined the Sussex Cancer Centre in Brighton in March 2018.
