About
Professor Banning is the Senior Interventional Cardiologist based in Oxford. He works as a Consultant in interventional and general cardiology and is one of the founder members of the Oxford Private Heart and Lung Centre at Nuffield Health Oxford at The Manor Hospital. He is recognised as one of the UK’s top interventional cardiologists and until recently he was President of the British Cardiac Intervention Society.
He performs more than 250 coronary intervention procedures every year and he is an expert in TAVI – implantation of a new aortic valve through a keyhole incision and performs >150 of these TAVI procedures each year.
He has extensive research experience and has published >450 papers in peer-reviewed Journals with an h index >60. He lectures around the world and performs live case demonstrations. In 2021 he was been recognised by Expertscape as a worldwide expert in endovascular therapy (keyhole treatment of circulatory problems).

Personal interests
Outside of Cardiology, Professor Banning is vice chair of Governers of Headington School, Oxford. He can often to be found by the side of the Thames encouraging his two daughters in their competitive rowing activities.

Research
Aside from this clinical work, Professor Banning is also lead investigator of several international cardiology trials and gives lectures or teaching sessions in new techniques to trainee cardiologists. In 2010, the Daily Mail recognized him as one of the top Interventional Cardiologists in the UK. He recently demonstrated a coronary stenting procedure via satellite broadcast to an international group of more than 10,000 cardiologists meeting in Paris.
Professor Banning has written over 250 peer-reviewed journal articles and other publications and is the editor of two leading cardiology textbooks.
