Prof Summerton is a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Leicester General Hospital and an Honorary Senior lecturer at the University of Leicester.
He sees patients with all manner of urological problems including andrology, the treatment of urethral strictures, testicular pain, erectile dysfunction, male infertility, prostate cancer, urodynamics, vasectomy reversal, benign prostate disease and urological cancers.
He graduated from Leicester Medical School in 1987 and undertook his general surgical and urological training in Plymouth, Southampton and Portsmouth. He obtained Reconstructive Fellowships in the USA and at the Institute of Urology in London, with a further Fellowship in advanced andrological surgery, including prosthetics and female to male gender realignment also at the Institute of Urology.
Appointed as a Consultant in 2001 in Portsmouth, he moved to Leicester in 2005 on leaving the Royal Navy after 19 years of service.
Prof Summerton has recently been elected to the office of Vice President of the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) and will become President in 2018. He also Chairs the East Midlands Regional Training Committee and the East Midlands Penile cancer Supra-network (6.5 million population). He Chaired the European Association of Urology (EAU) Guidelines Panel in Urological Trauma until 2015 and Examines at the Medical School and Nationally for FRCS(Urol).
