About
Professor John Benson is a Consultant Breast Surgeon at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, UK. He qualified from Oxford University Clinical School and been awarded doctorates from Oxford and Cambridge Universities (DM (Oxon); MD (Cantab)).
He received specialist training at the Royal Marsden Hospital and Institute of Cancer Research, London and The New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Centre, New York. Professor Benson is a Fellow and Director of Clinical Studies at Selwyn College, Cambridge and Professor of Applied Surgical Sciences at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, UK.
He is an examiner for the MRCS examination, a member of the British Breast Group and the Executive Board of the Association of Breast Surgery (Ordinary Trustee). His clinical practice is devoted entirely to breast diseases and current research interests include fluorescent navigation systems for sentinel lymph node detection. Professor Benson has more than 120 published articles (ranked amongst top 0.18% of world’s breast cancer experts) and won First Prize in the Oncology Section of BMA Medical Book Awards (2013).
He is a former member of the Planning Committee for the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (2013 – 2015) and was Visiting Professor at the University of Texas Health Sciences Centre at San Antonio in 2016.

Professor Benson is grantee of several organisations including the American Association for Cancer Research, Ethicon Foundation Fund, The European School of Oncology and The Royal College of Surgeons Foundation Inc. New York.

Research
Professor Benson has published widely in the field of breast disease and has recently co-ordinated a high profile seminar on breast cancer for The Lancet. He is author of a specialist text entitled ‘TGFß and Cancer” and co-editor of two bestselling books in the field of breast cancer and reconstructive surgery.
