About

Having qualified at St Bart's, Professor Richardson trained at St Paul's Eye Hospital, Liverpool, and the University of Sheffield where he was a lecturer. 

He did a retinal fellowship in Birmingham and has been a consultant since 1999. His areas of special interest include AMD, Diabetic Retinopathy and Cataract Surgery including IOL VIP.

Research

Professor Richardson has found a genetic link to the onset of diabetic retinopathy and has treated WET AMD by RPE transplantation and retinal translocation. He has found inhibitors for PVR, the commonest cause of failed retinal detachment surgery.
