About
Professor Rajesh Kharbanda, Consultant Cardiologist in Oxford, graduated from Edinburgh Medical School in 1991, and has trained and worked in the specialty of cardiology in London, Cambridge, Toronto (Canada). He is a General Cardiologist with over 20 years of experience treating patients with a wide range of heart conditions including angina, valve disease, heart failure and irregular heart rhythm. His practice incorporates investigation of chest pain, palpitations, dizziness, blackouts and breathlessness. He has special expertise in the treatment of coronary artery disease by coronary angioplasty and stenting including complex angioplasty techniques, and is a part of the Oxford team that performs TAVI treatment. He places importance on the prevention and early detection of coronary disease through the assessment of cardiac risk factors such as high-blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes.
Other interests
Professor Kharbanda is regularly invited to speak about the assessment and management of coronary artery disease at national and international meetings. He organises and lectures on international courses for consultant cardiologists training in specialist techniques, and holds roles in national and international training and education committees.

Professor Kharbanda is a well-respected clinical researcher in the field of cardiology and has published over 100 papers in leading medical journals. He has a particular interest in improving the treatment and outcomes of patients with heart attack and has conducted research with international collaborators across Europe and North America. He is currently involved as the Oxford lead in several international studies investigating new treatments for heart disease, not only focusing on heart-attack research but also other aspects of cardiology.
