The key to our success is our taking time to understand your problems, your motivation to lose weight and your long term goals after the weight loss surgery treatment.
Obesity is a time bomb. The World Health Organisation envisage that it will become a significant global problem, leading to premature death due to its association with serious chronic conditions. These include type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidaemia - all of which are major risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
What’s right for you?
Gastric Banding
Gastric Banding is a highly effective weight loss surgical procedure that limits how much food you can eat. Also known as Lap Banding, the operation helps overweight people achieve substantial and long-term weight loss. You may be eligible for surgery if your BMI (body mass index) is over 40, or if it is over 35 and you have other medical conditions. You will be asked to follow a liver shrinking diet prior to surgery. Our Dietician will advise you.
Gastric Bypass
Gastric Bypass is another weight loss surgery procedure whereby the stomach is stapled to form a small pouch, then most of the stomach and part of the intestines are bypassed by attaching a part of the intestine to the small stomach pouch. This means that you would not be able to eat as much food and would therefore absorb fewer calories and nutrients.
Sleeve Gastrectomy
Sleeve Gastrectomy is a restrictive procedure. The stomach is stapled vertically from top to bottom leaving a sleeve shaped stomach (approximately a quarter of its original size). This results in less food consumption and ultimately weight loss. Your Nuffield Health surgeon will be the best person to guide you as to the most suitable procedure for you, as this needs to be based on individual assessment and lifestyle factors.
