What does the treatment involve?
Facial feminisation surgery can involve a combination of all or some of the below cosmetic procedures. Each patient is different and your expectations and desired results will be discussed fully in your consultation.
- Forehead contorting, brow lift, hairline advance
- Cheekbone augmentation
- Mandibular angle reduction (jaw shave)
- Genioplasty (chin surgery)
- Rhinoplasty (nose reshaping)
- Lip lift
- Thyroid shave
Surgery will be carried out under general anaesthetic and can typically range from around 4 to 8 hours depending on the procedures. Generally most patients are in hospital for around 2 to 3 days.
How should I prepare for the surgery?
- You should be as fit as you can
- Stop smoking 8 weeks prior to surgery, including vaping and recreational drugs
- A BMI of under 40 is required
- Patients are not required to stop any hormone treatment before undergoing surgery
How long is the recovery process?
This will vary greatly from patient to patient and the surgeries being undertaken but typically you will need around 3 weeks off work. During your consultation your Consultant will be able to advise you in detail about your personal recovery.
Risks and complications
As with all surgeries there are risks involved with being under general anaesthetic. All patients are fully assessed for their safety prior to surgery. It is the patient’s responsibility to disclose all medical and surgical history to the consultant or specialist nurses. Any non-disclosure could result in your surgery being cancelled. Specific risks and complications will be discussed in detail at your consultation.
