Professor Langley

Professor Langley is an acknowledged international expert in prostate cancer and prostate conditions. He has spent over 20 years developing new methods to both detect and treat prostate cancer that have been adopted worldwide. Prostate cancer sadly is a leading cause of cancer deaths in the UK with over 50,000 men being diagnosed with it each year and more than 12,000 men dying from it.

About the clinic

This health screening can identify prostate problems early before they might cause symptoms. They can then be quickly assessed, diagnosed and if necessary, effectively treated. Remember, early prostate cancer usually causes no symptoms and the only reliable way to be checked is to be tested. If you are of black ethnicity or have a close family member who has had prostate cancer, you may be at greater risk of developing the disease. Men aged between 45-75 years old have the most to gain from an early diagnosis.

How are you tested for prostate cancer?

A blood test for Prostate Specific Antigen, 'PSA', is often the first step in being checked for prostate cancer.  A normal PSA can be up to 10% of the prostate volume. Therefore, a more accurate assessment of risk is obtained using PSA in conjunction with measurement of volume of the prostate using ultrasound.

In men with an abnormal PSA, a non-invasive multiparametric MRI scan is advised which is the most accurate way of detecting whether there might be a cancer present. MRIs can even detect cancers where the PSA is normal and has yet to rise.

We offer 3 different prostate health checks for men, the Prostate Health Assessment- Bronze, Silver and Gold. If you have any specific concerns, or would like more information, please contact us on 01483 555 805 or prostatecheck@nuffieldhealth.com.
