We aim to get everything done in one visit – consultation, assessment and tests like MRI scans, blood work and ECGs completed on the same day. This way, we try to give as much information as possible at the end of your visit, including what we consider the memory problem is due to and a plan for treatment if necessary.

What does the memory clinic do?

Parkside Hospital’s Memory Clinic evaluates, diagnoses and, where possible, treats individuals with memory-related conditions, such as:

Our team

Parkside Hospital's Memory Clinic is run by Dr Justin Sauer, Consultant Psychiatrist (also Memory Clinic Lead at the Maudsley Hospital) and alongside a team of highly skilled nurses and radiologists, our patients will receive expert care tailored to their individual needs.

How do I know if I need to visit a memory clinic?

You might want to consider visiting our memory clinic if you’re experiencing any of the following:

  • Early changes: Noticing that memory is just not what it was and others starting to make comments.
  • Memory issues: Frequent forgetfulness, such as misplacing items or struggling to recall recent events, names, or appointments.
  • Cognitive decline: Difficulty concentrating, following conversations, or making decisions.
  • Behavioural changes: Engaging in behaviours that are unusual for you, such as getting lost in familiar places or struggling with routine tasks.
  • Family history: If dementia, Alzheimer’s Disease or other memory-related conditions run in your family, it might be helpful to get checked early.

What to expect on the day

Your visit to Parkside Hospital’s Memory Clinic will take 2 to 3 hours (on average) and will include:

  1. Consultation with Dr Justin Sauer and some memory testing
  2. Diagnostic imaging: MRI of the brain
  3. Memory blood tests (to exclude causes)
  4. Urine testing
  5. ECG (heart tracing)
  6. Feedback session

We encourage a close relative to attend to help us understand ongoing issues in as much detail as possible.
