Neck lifts can be used to address loose and saggy skin.

As you age the skin under your chin may become loose and sag. You may develop excess skin (sometimes called turkey neck). Or you may just feel your neck is too thick or heavy. A neck lift performed alone or as part of a facelift might help resolve this for you.

What happens during neck lift surgery?

Neck lifts can be performed in several ways. During your consultation, your surgeon will recommend the procedure that’s right for you.

Neck lift surgery usually takes between one to three hours and is performed under general anaesthetic.

Your surgeon will remove any excess skin or fat under your chin giving it a smoother more defined look. Bands of skin and lines can be eliminated by accessing and tightening the neck muscles through small incisions. Your surgeon may use liposuction as well.

Depending on the extent of your surgery you may need to spend one night in hospital.

Going home after neck lift surgery

You may have swelling and bruising. This should settle within a few days. You may also feel tightness, burning, pulling or numbness around the neck area. You will be given pain relief medication if needed. You may be asked to sleep in an upright position for the first few days to help reduce swelling.

If your stitches need to be removed you will return in 7 - 10 days to our outpatient area.

You will be able to walk and do light activities. However, it is recommended that you avoid strenuous activity for about three weeks. Be sure you discuss your return to work with your surgeon.
