Children's services
We understand that if your child needs to visit a hospital it may be a worrying time for the whole family.
That's why we do everything we can to make your child's stay as stress-free as possible, including working with some of the most experienced paediatricians, surgeons, and healthcare staff leaving you to concentrate on the most important thing for your child - helping them recover.
Our staff are experienced and trained in the care of Children and Young People, including resuscitation, and safeguarding. Registered Paediatric Nurses will care for your child if they are admitted for surgery.
Keeping you informed
Before your child comes to us, we send you a special patient information pack, so that you have all the information you need to help you and your child prepare for your visit. If your child is attending for surgery, we will arrange a pre-operative assessment appointment to address any of your concerns about your child’s surgery and admission to hospital.
Visiting and staying with your child
We have an open visitor policy, so your child can enjoy the comfort and support of having friends and family visit anytime. We also provide child-friendly facilities, and provision for parents to stay, a children’s specific menu and private rooms with en-suite shower rooms in many of our locations.
Food & drink
We know some children can be particular about their food, so we offer a special children's food and drink menu to make sure they have the sort of food they're used to at home. Please let us know if your child has any specific dietary requirements including cultural or religious preferences, any known allergies or vegetarian or vegan diets.
A wide range of services
Many of our Nuffield Health hospitals across the charity provide comprehensive, expert care for children and young people and our services include both inpatient and outpatient services, plus a wide range of consultant clinics and surgical care. We also offer diagnostics, physiotherapy, and imaging across a wide range of medical specialties. For your peace of mind, our teams are also trained in emergency care and safeguarding.
Many of our hospitals offer surgical treatment for children aged 3 to 17 years and most of our hospitals see children for consultation appointments aged 0 – 17 years. If the hospital your child visits does not offer surgical treatment, we will offer you our nearest surgical hospital site to have the surgery performed. Both before and after the procedure you will be given a specially designed children's information pack. After your child goes home you have a 24-hour telephone service at your disposal.
