Our price promise
The price you're quoted is the price you pay.
Clear and transparent pricing that covers your clinical care before, during and after your treatment with no hidden costs.
After you’ve paid for your initial consultation(s) and any required diagnostic tests, scans or investigations, you will receive a full procedure quote including any aftercare you need as part of your treatment.
We will provide you with follow-up advice, treatment or care that is clinically required if you experience a complication as part of your treatment/surgery.
This excludes any advice, treatment or care provided by a Private Patient Unit at NHS hospitals.
Plus, if you find an alternative private hospital within 15 miles of your chosen Nuffield Health hospital offering the same procedure on the same terms but at a better price, we’ll match it. Just provide us with a written quote with identical terms and conditions.
-
How do we keep our price promise?
We can make promises about price because we’re a not-for-profit organisation.
We don’t have shareholders, which means we can reinvest any surplus we make into continually improving patient care.
Unlike other healthcare providers, we’re able to eliminate hidden costs and provide you with one clear quote containing a cost breakdown of everything you’ll pay while you’re with us.
-
Does our price promise cover all treatments?
Our price promise applies to patients paying for their own surgical treatment.
Medical treatments and the treatment or surveillance of long-term conditions are not covered, as they have more complex treatment plans that involve multi-disciplinary teams.
-
I’m not sure if my treatment is covered
If you’re not sure whether your treatment is covered by our price promise, please contact your local Nuffield Health hospital.
-
What’s included in my treatment package?
The following services and treatments are covered by our treatment price promise:
- Pre-assessment (all pre-hospital admission tests and assessments required)
- Consultant choice and all surgical and follow-up consultant fees
- Prosthesis/implant (the cost of any required prosthesis or implanted material(s))
- Overnight stay (if clinically required)
- Anaesthetic and anaesthetist's fees
- Take-home drugs (prescription drugs related to the original procedure)
- Post-operative follow-up care consultations
- Post-operative physiotherapy sessions
- Re-admission and treatment if required
-
Do other healthcare providers offer the same?
The Nuffield Health price promise is our unique commitment to our patients.
We’re proud to be the only healthcare provider that offers fixed and guaranteed prices for surgical treatments that don’t require further approval at pre-assessment before treatment.
-
Will you price match another quote I’ve found?
If you have received a quote from a hospital within 15 miles of us for the same treatment on the same terms, we’ll be happy to price-match it.
Please note that we are only able to price-match written quotes.
-
What happens if another condition is discovered at my pre-assessment?
Every patient has a pre-assessment appointment with us ahead of your surgery.
If you’re still fit for surgery in the event that we discover a second problem or condition that alters your treatment pathway but not the procedure you’re due to have, no additional fees will be charged.
If another condition is identified at your pre-assessment appointment which means you are no longer fit for surgery, treatment of the second condition will not considered part of your treatment pathway or price promise package.
Why?
Management and treatment of this second condition will be required before you are surgically fit for your original procedure.
This may mean you require a new treatment pathway or procedure, which will alter your costs accordingly.
Your hospital team will ensure you are fully informed of the costs for treatment of the secondary condition before any consent to treatment is agreed upon.
-
What happens if my surgery is postponed after my pre-assessment?
If your surgery is postponed for clinical reasons after your pre-assessment, then your package price will remain valid for 60 days.
If surgery cannot be rebooked during this period, you will receive a full refund.
-
What happens if my surgery is cancelled after my pre-assessment?
If our clinical team cancels your procedure after your pre-assessment, you will receive a full refund.
If you cancel your procedure before you’re admitted to one of our hospitals, you will be charged for certain aspects of your pathway that have already been undertaken.
You may also be charged for any specialist equipment or prosthesis that has been ordered for your procedure if it cannot be returned.
-
Post-operative care and support
We’re committed to making sure the care we provide doesn’t end once your surgery is complete.
Under the direction of your Consultant, we will continue to support your clinical needs after surgery, right through to when you’re discharged.
It’s important you follow any post-operative recommendations made by your Consultant and clinical team, as these are all intended to support your long-term outcome and health.
-
How do I get referred for self-pay treatment at Nuffield Health?
You can be referred for treatment at one of our hospitals by your GP or by contacting the hospital enquiry team directly.
If you know the Consultant you want to see, your GP can make a direct referral. If you don’t, your GP can still make an open referral that will be directed to one of our Consultant specialists.
-
Where can I find information about Nuffield Health Consultants?
Profiles for all Nuffield Health Consultants can be found on our website.
-
Can I 'mix-and-match' my private medical insurance (PMI) and pay for some of the treatment myself?
We recognise that your insurer and the scheme of you are under can impact the level of cover you receive.
It is important that you liaise with your private medical insurance provider to understand what is and what isn’t included in your scheme.
Our enquiry and booking teams can support you through the process once you have this information.
-
What if I had my treatment before the Nuffield Health Promise was launched?
We launched our price promise in June 2013 to provide transparency and certainty for our patients.
Since then, we have continued to support our patients in the event of unforeseen clinical complications.
If you believe you have a complication resulting from your original surgery before our price promise was launched, please speak with the Hospital Director at the Nuffield Health hospital you attended for treatment or surgery.

Terms and Conditions
Treatment and quotations
Initial consultation(s), diagnostic scans/tests, and investigations to establish a diagnosis are not part of your procedure price.
The price quoted applies once you have had an initial consultation and your consultant and Nuffield Health are satisfied that you have no pre-existing medical conditions that may alter your care pathway.
Our price promise applies only to self-pay patients (including by way of our interest-free medical loans), but excludes treatment(s) paid for through private medical insurance and fertility services.
Complications
It also includes follow-up advice, treatment, or care that is clinically required if you experience a complication of your treatment/surgery. Your treating consultant will determine what is clinically required as a direct result of your procedure.
The Nuffield Health price promise doesn’t cover situations where surgery fails to achieve the desired outcome due to known risks or complications of that procedure.
Prosthetics and implants
Any problems that occur with a prosthesis or implant(s) will be covered by the manufacturer’s own guarantee.
Price matching
Please note that when price matching, ‘local area’ refers to any area within 15 miles of your chosen Nuffield Health hospital. Price matching is only possible against written quotes.
