Visual field testing checks how well you can see in all areas of your vision, including your side (peripheral) and central vision. It's used to find and monitor vision problems, especially those that might not appear in a regular eye exam.

A visual field test is perform to:

  • Detect and montior glaucoma: Glaucoma is an eye disease affecting the optic nerve, which transmits information from the retina to the brain enabling you to see clearly. It can lead to loss of vision if it is not diagnosed early and treated.
  • Identify neurological issues: To check for vision changes caused by strokes, brain tumors, or optic nerve damage.
  • Monitor retinal conditions: Diseases affecting the retina, such as retinitis pigmentosa, can cause progressive loss of visual field.
  • Assess damage after eye injuries: Testing is often used after trauma to determine any impact on vision.
