Cold Coagulation at Wessex Hospital
- Overview
Cold coagulation is a heat based treatment to destroy abnormal cells in your cervix.
What happens during cold coagulation?
This procedure is usually performed under local anaesthetic and takes only five to ten minutes. Our healthcare team will help you lie on an examination table with your with your legs in padded stirrups.
They will insert speculum into your vagina to hold it open and allow your consultant to view your cervix. They will spray local anaesthetic on your cervix to numb the area and use a probe to burn away any abnormal cells.
You should not feel the probe on your cervix, but you may experience discomfort similar to period type pain during the treatment and for a short time after your procedure.
Going home after cold coagulation
You should be able to go home very soon after your procedure. Our healthcare team will give you instructions about any temporary changes you might need to make to your daily activities. Be sure and discuss any follow-up appointment with us before you leave hospital.
