If you have chronic (persistent) middle ear infections your consultant may recommend surgery for several reasons:

• To get a better look at the infected area
• Remove any blockage or infected tissue
• Ensure drainage is adequate to prevent further infection

The precise procedure may not be known prior to your surgery.
