Skin abscesses
Skin abscesses can occur on any part of your body. Often they are found in or near where there is hair. They appear as a swollen lump and there may be pus under your skin.
Abscesses can be very painful and red and may also appear as an open wound. A boil is an example of a skin abscess.
Skin abscesses often disappear on their own. However if an abscess is causing you discomfort, pain or you have a fever you should seek medical attention.
