Our sustainability pillars
Our ‘healthy work, healthy community and healthy environment’ pillars set out our key areas of focus across the Charity. We’re implementing a programme of change and taking positive actions towards a more sustainable future for all.
We’re already making good progress across our three sustainability pillars - driving positive change in the workplace; ensuring accessibility, engagement and opportunities in the community, and protecting the environment.

Our route to Carbon Net Zero
Our goals are set and we’ve committed to be carbon net zero for scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 and scope 3 emissions by 2040.
How we’re working towards our goals:
✓Investing in insulation; LED lighting; and, our building management systems to be more energy efficient across our estate
✓100% of our electricity is from natural renewable sources
✓Through our Greener Surgery programme we’re improving our clinical waste systems; using less carbon intensive gases; changing from single use products to reusables and reducing single use plastics.
✓Using fully compostable recycled food packaging in all 75 sites offering ‘grab and go’
✓Working with our suppliers to understand their carbon footprint and ensure their social, environmental and economic practices are aligned to ours
✓Engaging our people as we believe everyone has a part to play
UN Sustainable Development Goals
As part of our sustainability plan, we support and contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Whether it’s investment into our local communities, reducing emissions to tackle climate change, promoting sustainable manufacturing practices in our supply chains or ensuring diversity and inclusion within our Charity. Our sustainability framework is aligned to these goals so that we can help create a more sustainable future for all.
