Dr Durham grew up in the York area and was educated at St Peters’ School, York where he won a scholarship. He graduated from the University of Nottingham in 1993, and returned to Yorkshire to complete his training.
Dr Durham was appointed as a consultant cardiologist at York in 2006 and sees patients with a wide range of cardiological and general medical conditions.
Since 2009, Dr Durham has been clinical lead for cardiology at York Foundation Trust. During this time he has been instrumental in enhancing the cardiology services offered at York Foundation Trust, including introduction of Primary Coronary Intervention for Angioplasty in York, follow up of patients with cardiac dysrhythmias (Implantable Coronary Device and Cardiac Resynchronisation Therapy) in York, and cardiac CT angiography service.

Personal interests
Dr Durham is heavily involved in the local community, and is Trustee of York Sports Club and Chairman of York Cricket Club.
He plays cricket for the MCC and York Cricket Club and is occasionally to be seen on the rugby pitch and golf course.
When work and sporting commitments allow he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, and avoiding doing any DIY or gardening.

Research
Dr Durham was awarded his PhD “The genetics of coronary artery disease” in 2005, and this initial work developed into the world’s largest study into heart disease. The BHF Family Heart Study aims to pin point the genes that contribute to heart disease. He has a number of papers published in medical research journals.
Dr Durham is a renowned speaker and has presented at international and national conferences, as well as providing topical updates to GP’s and colleagues locally. In 2006 he established the annual Leeds Interventional Trainees Course for national cardiology registrars.
