About
Mr Chandratreya is experienced in all aspects of Orthopaedics, with specialist interest in Lower Limb Arthroplasty, Knee Surgery and Sports Trauma. Amit qualified as a doctor in 1990 from BJ Medical College, Pune, India and underwent his specialist orthopaedic training; initially in Pune and then Mumbai and successfully obtained the MS (Orth) and DNB (Orth) degrees. He then undertook further specialty training at the Queens’s Medical Centre, Nottingham; completing his CCST in Trauma and Orthopaedics and obtaining the MCh(Orth) and FRCS(Orth)Glasg in 1999.
He has completed 2 prestigious Clinical Fellowships in Nottingham and Bradford, with specific emphasis problems in the lower limb, specifically the knee. His interests cover the range of knee surgery including arthroscopic anterior and posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction for the unstable knee, meniscal surgery and reconstruction for the torn footballer’s cartilage, surgery for patello-femoral problems, articular cartilage repair for joint articular surface damage, through to osteotomy and joint replacement for the worn knee.
In addition to traditional hip and knee replacements, he also offers treatments like Unicompartmental replacement, total knee replacements with special bearings for nickel sensitive patients and patellofemoral replacements. He also offers knee arthroscopy under local anaesthesia to patients who fit the criteria.
He holds a particular passion to treat patients with Anterior Cruciate Ligament injuries and Meniscal injuries of the knee. Amit takes care of al the acute knee injuries which present through the trauma clinics at POWH.
He is keen to remain at the forefront of developing technology with an aim to offer the best treatment to his patients.
He has been a Consultant in the NHS since 2005.

Research
Mr Chandratreya presents his work regularly in the local and national BASK/BOA meetings.
He co-organised the very successful Annual BASK meeting in Cardiff.
He co-ordinates a quarterly Complex Knee Meeting for all Knee surgeons in South Wales. This is an important meeting for surgeons and their patients who present with complex and unusual problems.
