About
Mr Freites is a consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at York & Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He began his speciality training in York in 2007, earned his MRCOG in 2012, and completed his training in 2014, after which he became a consultant active at York, Malton, and Scarborough hospitals.
During his training, Mr Freites developed a strong interest in benign gynaecological pathology and its impact on women's quality of life, particularly pelvic floor health. As he honed his skills as a surgeon, excelling in both minimally invasive and open surgical techniques, he discovered his true passion lay in managing pelvic floor dysfunction. To enhance his expertise in this area, especially in treating complex pelvic floor prolapse and urinary incontinence, he successfully completed an advanced training module in Urogynaecology and vaginal surgery at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
Over the past decade, he has significantly expanded his interest in pelvic floor health through clinical practice and active participation in research. Currently, he serves as the Urogynaecology Lead and co-chairs the Pelvic Floor Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) at the Trust. This team collaborates to create personalised care pathways that address each patient's specific needs, a commitment that Mr Freites prides himself on.
Special interests
Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, this includes:
- Managing pelvic organ prolapse (primary, recurrent & multicompartment), including vault suspension procedures.
- The management of urinary incontinence (Stress, Overactive bladder (OAB) & Mixed urinary incontinence)
- The diagnosis & management of bladder pain syndrome (BPS)

Personal interests
Mr Freites prioritises spending time with his young family, which includes his two children, aged 6 and 2. He is also a passionate endurance and long-distance cyclist and has represented York’s Clifton Cycling Club in numerous charity cycling events across the country over the years.
