About
Mr Hodgson qualified from Cardiff Medical School in 2000 and trained in orthopaedic and trauma surgery in South Wales before receiving fellowship training in foot and ankle surgery under Mr Ian Winson (Bristol).
He works at both University Hospital of Wales and University Hospital Llandough, and is an Honorary Clinical Teacher with Cardiff University.
He has an interest in foot and ankle trauma, ankle sports injuries and cartilage disorders. He manages all aspects of elective foot and ankle surgery, in particular treatment of bunions and forefoot disorders, arthroscopic surgery and deformity correction. He is trained in the use of Shockwave therapy for treating disorders of the achilles tendon and plantar fasciitis.

Personal interests
Outside of the working environment Mr Hodgson's interests involve sport, cinema and music. He gained Full Colours playing football for his University, but now his involvement is mainly as a spectator.
He is married with a young daughter, who most definitely keeps him busy!

Research
Mr Hodgson has numerous publications in peer reviewed journals, including a review article on hindfoot arthritis.
He presented his research at regional, national and international conferences.
During his training he undertook laboratory based research in the School of Biosciences, Cardiff University under the supervision of Professor Bruce Caterson. This work investigated the molecular and biochemical aspects of a rare cartilage disorder (Kashin-Beck disease) and culminated in being awarded an MD in March 2013.
His current research interests involve ankle cartilage pathology and disorders of the achilles tendon.
