About
Shahid is a Welsh born Consultant Hip and Knee Surgeon at the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.
He completed his medical training at the University of Wales College of Medicine whilst also completing a further undergraduate degree at Imperial College London where he developed and published a software to create 3D cartilage wear maps from MRI scans of the knee.
He undertook his basic surgical training in Taunton and Bristol and in 2011 progressed to specialist surgical training on the Prestigious All Wales Orthopaedic Rotation.
Between 2017-2018 he undertook specialist Lower limb reconstruction and Revision Arthroplasty fellowships at the world-renowned centers at Oswestry (The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital) and Oxford (The Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre).
At Oxford he was instrumental in establishing a regional MDT meeting for complex revision and infection cases referred internationally.
He was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in 2018 with a specialist interest in hip and knee reconstruction, revision arthroplasty, infection, peri- prosthetic trauma and patient outcomes.
He became the Regional Hip Lead in 2020 and has undertaken projects to rationalise and streamline implant use, establishing a subspecialty MDT forum and laying the foundations to implement a patient surgical app.
He offers vast teaching, media, leadership and management experience and plays an active role in medical education as a Clinical and Educational supervisor and Mentor.
By maintaining an increasing management role and active under-graduate and post-graduate teaching responsibilities, allows him to promote his specialty and nurture the next generation.
Since completing his MBA at the London School of Commerce in 2020, he has fosters an active interest in new ways of creating an efficient and effective healthcare service through Digital Health.

Personal interests
Shahid lives in Cardiff with his wife and four children. One of his biggest joys in life is watching his son play football in the junior league and dreams of a day he plays for the Welsh National Team!
He regularly enjoys football, rugby and cricket; although more in a spectator capacity these days!
He plays an active role in his family commercial and residential business interests and reads widely on topics pertaining to technology, investment, economics and more recently crypto-currency.
Being a product of South Wales, He regularly contributes to community and charity events in promoting health and youth development.
More recently, he has been involved in the logistics and delivery of a food bank locally in partnership with ‘Fair share Cymru’ as well as being a founding member of a medical organization (MDC) aimed at improving access to COVID support and Vaccinations.
