About

Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgeon, Thomas Macleod qualified from the London Hospital Medical College, University of London in 1993. He has trained extensively in plastic surgery in the UK and was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS) in 1998.

He remains one of only a few plastic surgeons to have undertaken an Oncoplastic Fellowship in Breast Reconstruction and a National Fellowship in Cosmetic Surgery. He was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Plastic Surgery FRCS (Plast) and a Certificate of Completion of Training in Plastic Surgery (CCT).

He is on the GMC Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery and is a Full Member of both the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) and the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS). Mr Macleod is unique in being based locally in York where he is a fully trained and accredited NHS Consultant Plastic Surgeon at York NHS Teaching Hospitals Trust.

Related experience

Research

As a medical student, Mr Macleod’s research on MND and Alzheimer’s Disease was awarded the first prize at the British Pathology Society of Great Britain and Ireland and earned him a Bachelor of Science Degree with Honours.

He was awarded a Doctorate in Medicine by the University of London for his work on soft tissue reconstruction at the world-renowned RAFT Institute in London (Restore of Appearance and Function Trust). This work was then presented at national and international meetings, and he became an invited speaker at the British Facial Aesthetic Conference in London.

As an enthusiastic educator, Mr Macleod has been awarded a Master’s degree by the University of Nottingham for his work on teaching plastic surgery skills to surgeons in training. His current research interests are centred around his subspecialty interest in complex abdominal wall reconstruction.
