Mr Vinod Kumar

Mr Vinod Kumar is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff and the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend having been appointed in 2003. He has sub-specialist fellowship training in cornea, cataract, glaucoma and refractive surgery. His special interests include vision enhancing lens & laser eye surgery, refractive cataract surgery and lamellar corneal transplant surgery.

Mr Kumar graduated from the University of Manchester Medical School and his general ophthalmology training was completed in London and Birmingham. After finishing his cornea, anterior segment and glaucoma fellowships in the UK, he trained in refractive surgery at the University of Crete under the tutelage of Professor I Pallikaris, world renowned as the father of LASIK surgery.

Mr Kumar is past president of the British Society for Refractive Surgery and external examiner at the University of Ulster for the diploma course in cataract and refractive surgery.
He currently serves on the council of the Oxford Ophthalmological Congress and is the representative for Wales on the UK Ocular Tissue Advisory Group of the NHSBT. He has numerous publications to his name and has presented research papers and delivered invited lectures at national and international conferences over the past 20 years. His research interests include new technology intra-ocular lenses, laser assisted cataract surgery and lamellar corneal graft surgery. He is a member of the UK and Ireland, European and American societies of cataract and refractive surgeons
