About

Rhianon Reynolds is a Consultant at Aneurin Bevan University health board. She has a specialist interest in Medical retina, Uveitis and cataract surgery.

After qualifying as an Optometrist and completing a PhD in Diabetic eye disease Mrs Reynolds returned to complete her medical training at Cardiff University School of Medicine. After graduating with Honours she undertook her specialist training within the Wales Deanery and following a fellowship in Uveitis at the Regional Ocular inflammatory centre at Bristol Eye hospital she returned to Wales to Take up her substantive post.

Mrs is Reynolds is currently Clinical lead at ABUHB, Llywydd of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in Wales and National Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology in Wales where she is involved with Welsh Government policy discussions and delivery of services across Wales.

Research

Mrs Reynolds holds a Senior Lecturer role in Cardiff University School of Vision Science. She is part of the translational Macular research group with academic interests in functional cellular changes in age related macular degeneration and hydroxychloroquine retinopathy and supervises PhD students in both these areas. Mrs Reynolds is also actively involved in Vision services research and has substantial grant awards as part of a research collaborative across Cardiff, Swansea and Bangor Universities and the University of South Wales as well as third sector collaborators and the NHS in Wales. Recent work has include the value of optometrists looking after lower risk patients in the community and primary care registration of patients with sight impairment. Within her clinical work Mrs Reynolds is an investigator in clinical trials and supports clinical based research at all levels of care where possible.
