Research

Academic interest is in the application of novel treatments to improve cardiac function. Early studies evaluated the role of post-pacemaker “fine-tuning” of cardiac cycle timings and use of temporary epicardial biventricular pacing in patients following cardiac surgery. Both projects showed clinical benefits which have been incorporated into routine clinical practice. Current projects involve examining the roles of biventricular pacing in patients with heart failure and preserved ejection fraction and the role of restoring sinus arrhythmia in patients with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction.

Professor Yousef has served as the UK chief investigator for several landmark studies. He has raised in excess of £2miilion in research funds, supervised over 10 research fellows leading to higher degrees (PhD and MD) and has published >100 research articles in high impact medical journals. He is seen as an International expert and is regularly invited to give talks at learned societies.
