Cheltenham Hospital FAQs

  • How do I get an appointment to see a consultant?
For the majority of our consultants, you can book an appointment through our outpatients booking team without a referral on 01242 246574. A small amount of consultants that the outpatients booking team book for do require a referral to see the consultant. So this would require going to your GP first to get a referral stating why you need to see a consultant. The rest of our consultants require their medical secretary’s to make their appointments, so these details can be found via our website under the consultants profile you would like to see, or if you enquire through our outpatients booking team, someone can pass the medical secretary details onto you.
  • How long would it take me to get an appointment?
Our wait times vary, but our outpatients booking team will always try our best to get you seen as quickly as possible.
  • Can I see a consultant for an appointment after work or at the weekend?
Depending on the consultants’ preference, we hold evening clinics during the week from 17:00-20:00. So patients can see specific consultants who choose to work evenings, after work. We are also open on every second Saturday of the month, so again, a select few of these consultants will work on this Saturday. If a consultant does need to see a patient urgently, we always try our hardest to alter the clinics to fit in with an evening or weekend to suit the patient.
  • Can I choose which consultant I wish to see?
Yes, as a private patient it’s always down to you to choose which consultant to see. We want to make sure the consultant specialises in exactly what the patient needs so it’s up to you to decide who’s best suited to you.
  • Do you offer treatment for children?
No, we don’t offer any treatment for children. Selected consultants see certain patients over the age of 13 for a consultation, but can’t treat them and may go onto to refer them to someone who can. We do not see anyone under the age of 13 at Nuffield Health Cheltenham Hospital.
  • Would my surgery be conducted by a junior doctor?
No, we have no junior doctors working in the hospital. All of our consultations, treatments and surgery are performed by consultants.
  • When can my family visit if I’m an inpatient?
Our visiting hours are 2.00pm-8.00pm on weekdays and 2.00pm-5.00pm on weekends. Please sign in at reception when arriving. Also note that there is no visiting on the day of surgery.
  • Is there parking available?
Yes, we have free parking in the hospital. You don’t need to register your number plate just park around the side/back of the hospital and come into reception at the front.
  • Is there accommodation nearby where my family can stay?
There are two hotels located a two-minute walk away from the hospital. Which on their own accord, families can book in to stay at if need be. There is no accommodation on site for family to stay in.
  • I am disabled/require assistance during my visit, who do I need to tell?
If you do require disabled assistance, please let the person booking you in know. This will then be noted on the patient’s record. When coming into the hospital, if you require a wheelchair or easy access, please let reception know and they will help with this request. We have many wheelchairs stored for patients to use around the hospital, which if requested at reception, you will be provided with. We have chaperones who can assist you into the consulting room if you require this assistance, or you can bring a friend or family member with you.
  • Are visitor meals available?
Meals are always available for visitors. If visitors are staying overnight they are offered choice from the full menu, exactly the same as what the patient is offered. However, any meals/snacks that the visitors choose to have are chargeable. This will either be billed to the room at the end of the patients stay or added onto the cost of the procedure.
