What happens during a dilation and curettage (D&C)?

A D&C is usually performed under general anaesthetic. It is sometimes performed along with a hysteroscopy. Your consultant will widen the neck womb (cervix) using either medication or small surgical instruments. An instrument called a curette will be used to scrape away the lining of your womb.
