Jaws
Jaw joint disorders and / or jaw misalignment can make it difficult to chew, swallow or speak. Oral and Maxillofacial Consultants can diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions, including lock jaw, temporomandibular joint disorders and dysfunctions (TJD and TMJ) and Bruxism (grinding of the teeth) that can affect the lower jaw and / or the base of the skull.
Mouth
Cuts, lumps and bruising in and around the mouth can be caused by sharp uneven teeth, benign growths or, in extreme cases, some forms of cancers. Consultants can undertake biopsies of lesions from the lip, mouth and tongue for testing, and then surgically remove those areas that are found to be malignant. They can also diagnose, and then treat, diseases of the salivary glands.
Neck
Swollen glands, stiffness and muscle pain can affect the neck, and anxiety and stress may make it feel more tense and uncomfortable.
Nose
Procedures available include Rhinoplasty (re-shaping) and Septoplasty (repair of the septum) following trauma or disease.
Teeth
Specialist dental treatments, including wisdom tooth removal, root canal surgery (apiectomy) and the exposure or removal of buried teeth and roots, are offered for patients who are referred by their dentist.
