What is a myomectomy?

Tissue lumps that grow in or around your womb (uterus) are called fibroids (myoma). They are quite common and although they usually don't become cancerous they can cause discomfort. The procedure to surgically remove fibroids from your womb is called a myomectomy.

What happens during myomectomy surgery?

Under general anaesthetic fibroids are removed through an incision (cut) in your abdomen or through your vagina. The method used will depend on the size and location of the fibroids.
