Joint Pain Programme
Join our free programme to relieve joint pain and lead a more independent life.
How to ease joint pain
Joint pain is a common issue and tends to affect us more as we age. It can be caused by injury, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, and bursitis.
Here are some effective ways to help relieve joint pain:
- Engage in regular low-impact exercise
- Eat foods that can promote healthy joints
- Use relaxation techniques to help you deal with pain
- Make sure you’re getting enough good quality sleep.
You can learn how to do all of this and more on our free Joint Pain Programme.
What is the Joint Pain Programme?
This free-to-access programme is designed to help you self-manage your chronic joint pain and lead a more independent life.
It’s a 6-month programme, which begins with 12 weeks of lifestyle advice and exercise sessions led by a Rehabilitation Specialist. This will equip you with the tools to better manage your pain.
And it works. People who’ve completed the programme have shown improvements in mobility, pain, general fitness levels and overall quality of life.
How does the programme work?
Joint Pain Health Checks
You’ll receive a free Joint Pain Health Check at the beginning, part way through, and at the end of the programme to show your progress and motivate you to keep going. This also helps us to continually improve the programme.
Two group sessions a week
In weeks 1–12, you’ll meet twice a week for combined exercise and workshop sessions. Each group has around 10 people, giving you a support network to share your experiences. You'll also have access to a range of useful online articles throughout.
Free gym access
During weeks 13–24, you’ll apply what you’ve learnt in the group sessions with the guidance of your Rehabilitation Specialist. You’ll also have full access to your nearest gym for the 6 months to help you maintain your progress.
What can I expect from the programme?
Twice a week you'll have an hour-long group session. This is split into a 15–20 minute educational workshop, with 40–45 minutes of exercise.
Weekly exercise session
Each exercise session is focused on a different exercise that can help with joint pain.
Some of the exercises include:
-
✓ strength training
✓ flexibility training
✓ stability training
✓ yoga
✓ circuits.
Weekly educational workshop
The educational workshop aims to support your wellbeing and help you get back to better health.
Some of the topics covered include:
- ✓
pain management
✓ the importance of exercise
✓ improving sleep
✓ mental health
✓ eating well.
Is the programme for me?
If you've had any of the below, we can help:
- Osteoarthritis
- Psoriatic arthritis
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Other arthritis
- Gout
- Fibromyalgia
- Spondylitis
- Lupus.
Alternatively, if you've suffered with chronic pain for many years with no formal diagnosis, this programme is for you.
You don’t have to be a gym member to join the programme – it’s free and open to anyone living with joint pain. Gym members who do join won’t receive any change to their membership terms and conditions.
Please note that if your joint pain is very severe, or if you’ve had joint surgery within 12 weeks, you may not be able to take part in the programme.
How can the programme help me?
I feel I have benefited enormously. I feel much stronger. I’m walking better. And my pain as reduced to the extent that I don’t need to take pain relief as much.
Our Rehabilitation Specialist was brilliant – supportive and encouraging and never patronising. I cannot overstate the difference this opportunity has made to me moving forwards.
I'm more flexible, found muscles I didn't know I had, I feel much better within myself and it's given me some of my confidence back. I wish I had found this course years ago.
